President William Ruto on Tuesday oversaw the launch of NYOTA programme in Samburu County.
A total of Sh103.9 million NYOTA start-up capital was disbursed for youth in Samburu, Marsabit, Laikipia and Isiolo counties.
The State House said the disbursement will benefit over 4,000 youths in the entrepreneurial sector.
“Today’s disbursement will benefit 4,159 young entrepreneurs drawn from the four counties, each receiving Sh25,000 to start or grow their businesses,” a statement stated.
“Sh22,000 of the grant will be deposited directly into Pochi La Biashara to support business operations, while Sh3,000 will be saved under the Haba Na Haba savings account with the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).”
The President was accompanied by his deputy Kithure Kindiki at Archers Post for the event, where they interacted with young people.
NYOTA is designed to provide seed capital to young entrepreneurs, enabling them to start or expand businesses while supporting job creation at the grassroots level.
The programme has already been rolled out in Kakamega, Eldoret and Nakuru counties, and the Central region to benefit Nyeri, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Kirinyaga counties.
Further disbursements have been planned for Meru, Machakos, Nairobi, the Coast and Nyanza regions.
