Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro during the annual launch of Kiharu Masomo Bora programme at Maragi primary school on January 13, 2026/ ALICE WAITHERAMore than 12,000 senior day school learners in Kiharu constituency will only pay Sh500 per term in fees this year.
MP Ndindi Nyoro made the announcement during the annual launch of Kiharu Masomo Bora programme covering grade 10 and form three and four learners.
Under the programme, learners will continue enjoying free lunch from Monday to Sunday that will include chapatis every last Friday of the month.
Further, the NGCDF kitty will provide Sh10 million to the day secondary schools for revision materials.
An extra Sh50,000 will be provided to support extracurricular activities, ensuring parents are not called upon to give contributions.
The MP also announced that his NGCDF has allocated Sh50 million to construct laboratories and libraries and boost academic performance in the schools.
This is in spite of a motivation programme that sees a team of best-performing teachers taken to Mombasa and Dubai.
"Best performing teachers per subject will go to Mombasa for a week. Principals of the best performing and most improved schools per ward will also go to Dubai for a week," he said, adding that those who have been to the country can choose Malaysia or another country.
In addition, charges for remedial activities in the area have been capped at Sh1,000 per term.
Senior Secondary school students from Kiharu constituency during the launch of Kiharu Masomo Bora programme on January 13, 2026/ ALICE WAITHERAThe MP said students from other constituencies with relatives in Kiharu are free to join local day schools.
"There will be no other charges in our day schools. We implement the programme because we know the country is capable of providing free education".
He challenged the government to put measures in place to make education accessible to learners from all backgrounds saying it's only through education that a nation can progress.
According to him, the government should consider deducting Sh10 billion from the NGCDF kitty, another Sh10 billion from the county governments' equitable share and Sh10 billion from the national government's budget and form a kitty.
"Sh30 billion is enough to provide free basic education to all Kenyans, including a feeding programme".
"We must stop making education a campaign tool," he said while addressing parents at Maragi Primary School.
Kiharu Masomo Bora programme was started three years ago and has reprieved many local parents and learners who previously struggled to pay fees.
