Vihiga Queens Prudence Khasiala/ HANDOUTUlinzi Starlets head coach Collins Oduor says his side must build consistency and correct first-half lapses if they are to turn their opening win into a sustained Women’s Premier League run.
Starlets began 2026 with a hard-fought 2-1 comeback victory over Bungoma Starlets in Bungoma. The first half was goalless as Ulinzi struggled to find rhythm, while Bungoma came close in the 24th minute when Elizabeth Mideva missed narrowly.
Bungoma struck first after the restart, but Ulinzi responded decisively. Mideva redeemed herself in the 59th minute, finishing an assist from Odiro to level the score, before the visitors completed the turnaround to claim all three points.
“I thank God for the victory. It did not come easy,” Oduor said. “It worked out tactically. We did not have a good first half, but the adjustments after the interval made the difference.”
Off the field, administrative issues again shaped the weekend. Kisped Queens forfeited their away fixture against Kibera Soccer Women, giving Kibera three points without playing.
This marked Kisped’s second forfeit of the week after also missing Wednesday’s clash against Kenya Police Bullets. Kisped Chief Executive Officer, Leakey Ochieng, cited logistical and financial strains from back-to-back Nairobi fixtures.
“We requested that at least one match be postponed, but it was denied. Playing Wednesday and Saturday under these conditions was not practical,” he said. Kisped will face Zetech Sparks at a later confirmed date.
On the pitch, Zetech Sparks took full advantage of home conditions. Former Kayole Starlets forward Janet Muli scored twice to lead Zetech to a 2-0 win over her former side.
Kenya Police Bullets continued their strong form, defeating Madira Soccer Assassins to maintain pressure at the top. Meanwhile, defender Benedete Oluoch became a free agent after mutually parting ways with Kibera Soccer Women FC.
