Bungoma Queens players celebrate during a recent match/ BUNGOMA QUEENS

Ulinzi Starlets assistant coach Clive Otieno has declared the club’s intent to mount a serious title challenge in the FKF Women’s Premier League during the 2025/26 season.

The soldiers are preparing for a demanding away fixture against Bungoma Queens, scheduled for Sunday at 1pm.

Otieno believes the Starlets are better positioned this season after addressing the inconsistencies that have previously undermined their title ambitions.

He noted that lessons learned from slow starts in past campaigns have shaped their current approach.

“The girls are well prepared and they know what is expected of them, especially with what is at stake.

We have been doing well, particularly against big teams like defending champions Police Bullets and record champions Vihiga Queens,” said Otieno.

He added that the technical bench has placed strong emphasis on maintaining intensity from the opening rounds of the season.

Ulinzi currently sit third on the league table with 20 points, firmly within touching distance of the summit. Police Bullets lead with 22 points, followed closely by Vihiga Queens on 21.

The Starlets’ strong position has been underpinned by an encouraging run of form that has seen them pick up three wins from their last five matches.

Victories over Zetech Sparks and Kisped Queens have been key highlights, with their only dropped points coming in narrow encounters against fellow title contenders Trinity Starlets.

Otieno admitted that while overall performances have been positive, goal conversion remains a key area of focus. He pointed out that Ulinzi have often dominated matches without fully capitalising on their chances.

“We aim to score more goals to protect our goal difference. We are creating a lot, but now we want to widen the margins. When it matters most, goal difference can carry you to the top,” he said, adding that striker-specific training sessions have been intensified to sharpen finishing.

The assistant coach also highlighted squad depth and fitness as a major boost at this stage of the campaign.
“The girls have the zeal, they are motivated, and fortunately we have no injury concerns. We have tightened our screws in all departments, especially striking,” Otieno noted.

He reaffirmed that discipline and patience will remain central to their game model.

“We take one game at a time and approach every match with seriousness,” he added.

Their next opponents, Bungoma Queens, have shown resilience in recent weeks, climbing into the top half of the standings following an improved run that includes three wins in their last five matches.

The results have boosted their confidence after a difficult start to life in the top flight.

Bungoma Queens have been particularly impressive at home, relying on quick transitions and set-piece efficiency to trouble more established sides.
