The meeting was convened to console with the family following the demise of Raila Amolo Odinga and Beryl Odinga.

The delegation of PSs also joined the family in marking what would have been Baba’s 81st birthday, reflecting on his life and contribution to Kenya’s political history.

In a statement, the delegation said the visit was meant to “express solidarity with the Odinga family during this difficult moment,” and to stand with them as they commemorated the late statesman’s legacy.

Oburu welcomed the delegation and thanked the Principal Secretaries for what he described as a thoughtful and respectful gesture.

He used the occasion to offer guidance to the senior government officials, urging them to remain focused on their responsibilities in public service.

“Dr Oburu Odinga thanked the Principal Secretaries for the gesture and offered counsel on the importance of diligence, performance, and delivery of results in the execution of their respective mandates,” the statement said.

He reminded the officials of the expectations placed on them as accounting and policy leaders within government, stressing that effective service delivery and accountability were essential to meeting the needs of Kenyans.

The visit brought together Principal Secretaries drawn from a wide range of government departments, underscoring the cross-sectoral nature of the delegation.

Those present included Oluga, Judy Pareno, Principal Secretary for Justice, Human Rights and Constitutional Affairs, and Stephen Isaboke, EBS, Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications.

Others in attendance were Carren Agengo, Principal Secretary for Children Services; Dr Caroline Karugu, Principal Secretary for East African Community Affairs; Prof Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for Science, Research and Innovation; and Cyrell Odede, Principal Secretary for Public Investment.

The delegation also included Aden Millah, Principal Secretary for Maritime Affairs; Michael Lenasalon, Principal Secretary for Devolution; Dr Bonface Makokha, Principal Secretary for Economic Planning; and Regina Ombam, Principal Secretary for Trade.

The courtesy call came against the backdrop of national reflection on the life and legacy of Raila, whose influence in Kenya’s politics spanned decades and whose role in democratic reforms remains widely acknowledged.

The engagement was described as both a moment of condolence and reflection, as well as an opportunity for senior public servants to receive counsel from a veteran political leader on leadership, service and responsibility in government.

Raila died on October 15, 2025, at the age of 80, during a trip to India for medical treatment.

The former prime minister suffered a heart attack, the Devamatha Hospital in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
