Three children were rescued by members of the public after a man died in an apparent suicide in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, police have said.

According to police, the incident occurred on Sunday morning when the man was found in a private vehicle with the three minors.

Residents intervened and managed to rescue the children, police said.

The man, identified by police as a 41-year-old resident of the area, later died at the scene.

The motive for the incident has not been established, and investigations are ongoing.

Police said one person was injured during the incident and was treated at a local hospital before being discharged.

The body was later removed from the scene and taken to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

The rescued children were later reunited with their mother as investigations continue.

Police noted that cases of suicide have been reported in various parts of the country, adding that efforts are ongoing to address the trend through prevention and intervention measures.

In a separate incident in Maralal, Samburu County, two police vehicles were damaged as officers rescued a suspect from a hostile crowd.

Police said the suspect, who was wanted in connection with a murder case in the Loikas area, had taken refuge in a house when members of the public confronted him.

Officers responded to the scene on Sunday afternoon and managed to secure the suspect.

However, police said a crowd later attacked the police vehicles, damaging their windows as officers moved the suspect away from the area.

The suspect was successfully removed, and no serious injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, in Siaya County, police are investigating the death of a man whose body was recovered from Yala River.

The body was retrieved and taken to a mortuary pending identification and a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
