Police in Gilgil, Nakuru County, are investigating an incident in which a man died following an alleged stabbing during a family disagreement in Elementaita.

According to police, the deceased, identified as Sylvanus Ole Lesasuyan, 20, was injured during a confrontation at his home on Saturday night and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary police reports indicate that a disagreement arose after the deceased’s elder brother returned home late at night and sought to slaughter a family goat for New Year celebrations.

An argument reportedly followed as he attempted to remove the animal from its pen.

Police said the dispute escalated, resulting in the younger man sustaining stab wounds. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident.

A knife believed to have been used was later recovered some distance from the scene, following information provided to officers after the arrest.

The body was moved to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination and further investigations.

Police said inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

In a separate incident in Nyankongo area, Kisii County, police have arrested two bar attendants in connection with the death of a man following an altercation at a drinking establishment.

The deceased, Job Momanyi, 25, was admitted to hospital with injuries after an incident at a bar on New Year’s Day and later died while undergoing treatment, police said.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been drinking with friends and a dispute arose after they were reportedly unable to settle a bill.

Police said an altercation followed, during which two patrons sustained injuries.

Officers visited the premises and arrested two suspects for questioning.

Police said the matter is under investigation, and the suspects are expected to be presented in court.

Meanwhile, police in Nyamira County are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered along the Miruka–Masosa road in Nyamaiya.

The deceased was identified as Charles Magak Owino, 60.

Police said the body was found with visible injuries, while personal belongings were recovered nearby.

Officers said the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing to establish the cause and motive.

The body was taken to a mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

In Kisumu County, police are investigating a fire incident in Holo area in which an eight-year-old child died.

Police said the child was at home with siblings when a fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday. While the other children managed to escape, the pupil did not.

The remains were taken to a mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire, including whether it was accidental.
