The Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Akothee has once again sparked conversation regarding the cost of quality in the music industry.

Known for her flamboyant lifestyle and business acumen, the artist recently shared proof of her significant investment in her upcoming music.

She revealed an invoice for a single track produced outside Kenya, highlighting a shift towards international standards.

The $2,000 Invoice

Akothee shared a financial document from her company, Aknotela Ent LTD, which details the costs for "Song 1" of a new project. The invoice shows a total charge of $2,000, which is approximately Ksh 258,000.

The document confirms that the full amount has been paid, leaving an outstanding balance of zero. This payment covers professional services including songwriting, mixing, and mastering.

"Music is an investment... Pay what we have agreed, and you have your fully mastered song,Akothee stated.

Professionalism over Competition

The singer was vocal about her reasons for seeking services beyond Kenyan borders. She specifically credited international producers for mastering the art of professionalism.

In her view, these producers treat an artist as a business partner rather than a competitor.

“These International producers mastered the Art of PROFFESSIONALISM to them an ARTIST IS A BUSINESS PARTNER, not a sex object or competition.”

Akothee emphasised that she chooses to pay for value rather than just time spent in the studio.

Criticism of the Local Scene

Akothee did not hold back in her critique of the domestic production landscape. She urged Kenyan producers to "style up" and stop using manipulative tactics to control talent.

She described music as a very emotional and personal journey. She suggested that the local industry is sometimes hindered by jealousy and unprofessional conduct.

“Kenyan producers must step up and stop using manipulation to control talent; music is very emotional and personal,she said.

"As a female artist, don't allow sexual talk with producers. Stay professional, pay for the services,she added.

The Road to 2026

Her latest project is being handled by the acclaimed producer DJ Coublon. While the audio for the new track is already finished, Akothee is currently working on the accompanying music video.

The singer noted that this specific song has its own target market. Fans will have to wait a little longer to hear the final product, as she indicated that her full international rollout is planned for 2026.
