Several Governors have made fresh appointments to key public offices in recent gazette notices.
The county bosses have also extended the tenure of some office holders, with the decisions formalised through gazette notices dated December 24, 2025.
In Bungoma County, Governor Kenneth Makelo Lusaka appointed a new County Public Service Board (CPSB) following approval by the county assembly on December 22, 2025.
The appointments were made under Article 235 of the Constitution.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 235 of the Constitution of Kenya as read together with section 58 and 58A of the County Governments (Amendment) Act, 2020, and following the approval of the Bungoma County Assembly on the 22nd December, 2025, I, Kenneth Makelo Lusaka, Governor, Bungoma County, appoint Fredrick Wanyonyi Simiyu as the Chairperson and Members of the Bungoma County Public Service Board," the gazette reads.
Meanwhile, Michael Wasieba Barasa, Joyce Nasambu Munyefu, Norah Masicha Wandabwa and retired Colonel Geoffrey Simotwo were appointed as members.
The appointees will serve for a single term of six years, effective from the date of appointment.
The County Public Service Board plays a central role in county governance, including establishing and abolishing offices, appointing persons to hold or act in county public offices, and exercising disciplinary control over county staff.
Governor Lusaka also extended the term of the selection panel tasked with recruiting the chairperson, members and secretary of the Bungoma County Public Service Board.
The extension was effected pursuant to section 58A of the County Governments (Amendment) Act, 2020 and referenced Gazette Notice No. 13365 of 2025.
The panel, chaired by CS Elizabeth Wanyonyi, includes members Saul Wasilwa, CPA Rita Nabalayo Manyonge, Chemonges Stephen and Julius Bakasa.
Their appointment period was extended with effect from December 3, 2025, allowing the panel additional time to complete its mandate.
In neighbouring Trans Nzoia County, Governor George Natembeya appointed a selection panel for the recruitment of the chairperson and members of the county’s Public Service Board.
The panel will serve for a period of 60 days from December 17, 2025.
Samson Teela Akute was appointed chairperson of the selection panel, with Tom Wanambisi, Dennis Mutaki Wanyama, Anne Adera and Miriam Ndiema named as members.
The panel is expected to oversee a transparent and competitive recruitment process in line with constitutional and statutory requirements.
Meanwhile, in Nyandarua County, Governor Moses Badilisha Kiarie appointed members to the County Environment Committee, a body established under the County Governments Act and the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act.
Those appointed include Daniel Muthoga Mwangi and Sammy Githinji Ngumba representing the business community, Hellen Njoki Wainaina representing crop farmers, Lucy Nduta Muchora representing livestock farmers, and Christopher Ndehi Nderitu and Kamau Samuel Murai representing public benefit organisations.
Collectively, the appointments highlight the central role governors continue to play in shaping county institutions.
