Veteran KBC radio presenter Amina Fakii/HANDOUTMining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has condoled with the family, friends and colleagues of legendary radio presenter Amina Fakii.
This follows her passing on Sunday, December 21, 2025, with the CS describing her as a towering figure in Kenya’s broadcasting history, whose legacy will be remembered for generations.
In a condolence message shared after news of her passing, Joho mourned Fakii as a distinguished broadcaster who served the public with dedication, and integrity.
"It is with deep sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of the legendary KBC radio presenter Amina Fakii following the sad news of her passing," he said.
He noted that her contribution to public radio placed her among the pioneers who helped shape Kenya’s media landscape at a formative time in the country’s history.
"Mama Amina Fakii, a distinguished broadcaster, made an invaluable contribution to the media industry and served the public with dedication, professionalism and integrity." the CS said in a post.
His message added the nation, and particularly the media fraternity, had lost a trusted voice that informed, educated and accompanied Kenyans in their daily lives.
He added that Fakii’s work exemplified the values of discipline and service that defined the golden era of public broadcasting.
The media fraternity has paid glowing tributes to Fakii, recalling her as a soothing and authoritative presence on air, especially during her popular mid-morning programmes on KBC Radio Taifa in the 1990s.
At a time when radio was the primary source of information and entertainment, her calm delivery and engaging style made her a familiar companion in homes across the country.
Fakii’s career began in 1963, when she joined the Voice of Kenya, as the national broadcaster was then known.
Over the decades, she witnessed and contributed to the evolution of Kenyan radio, setting high professional standards that many sought to emulate. Her longevity in the industry reflected both her talent and her commitment to public service broadcasting.
Amina Fakii died on Sunday morning at the age of 83, prompting an outpouring of condolences from listeners, former colleagues and public figures who remembered her as warm, composed and deeply professional.
She was later laid to rest in Ngong, Nairobi, in accordance with Islamic rites, following Asr (4pm) prayers.
Joho prayed for strength and comfort for her family and loved ones during the period of mourning, saying Fakii had left behind a legacy that would be remembered with respect and admiration.
"May Allah grant her His boundless mercy, forgive her shortcomings and admit her into Jannatul Firdaus. May He also grant her family, loved ones and all those affected by this loss patience, strength and comfort during this difficult period. Amin," he concluded.
As tributes continue to pour in, Fakii is being remembered as one of the voices that defined Kenyan radio, a broadcaster whose contribution to the nation’s media history remains indelible.
