Detectives from Dandora and Shauri Moyo have arrested a murder suspect in an operation that also resulted in the recovery of a firearm and suspected stolen property.
In addition, detectives impounded a red Boxer motorcycle believed to have been stolen. The motorcycle is being held as an exhibit as investigations continue.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody as investigators finalise processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
The arrest came barely a day after detectives in Kisauni arrested two individuals connected to a brutal murder in Chembani, Mtopanga, Mombasa County.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the two suspects are believed to have killed Stephen Opello on November 22, 2025.
According to the DCI, the suspects viciously assaulted Opello, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Coast General Hospital by good Samaritans while clinging to life, but later succumbed to the injuries.
Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, officers tracked down the suspects to their hideout, where they were flushed out and arrested.
The two suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing processing pending their arraignment in court.
Earlier in the week, Kisauni Sub-County detectives also arrested another suspect linked to a string of violent robberies in the Kiembeni area.
Police said the arrest followed credible intelligence from members of the public, which led detectives to the suspect’s hideout in Bombo Village.
Officers moved in and cornered the suspect before apprehending him. Police described the suspect as feared for his ruthless attacks on victims, which had left a trail of terror in the area.
He remains in police custody as investigations continue ahead of his arraignment.
Meanwhile, on December 15, detectives in Kirinyaga East arrested two prime suspects linked to the brutal murder of a 72-year-old woman.
The deceased’s body was discovered on December 14, 2025, in a secluded thicket in Kegua village, Kerugoya East Sub-County.
The discovery followed a tip-off from a concerned member of the public who reported seeing the body of an unidentified woman.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the deceased half-naked, with visible injuries on her forehead.
Among the items recovered at the scene were her duplicate national identity card, an Equity Bank ATM card and an Itel mobile phone.
The body was moved to Kibugi Funeral Home, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was last seen at Muthigiini Shopping Centre on December 13, 2025, at a bar. She reportedly left the establishment at around 5:40pm and was never seen again.
Police launched a manhunt for the suspects, which culminated in their arrest.
