Nairobi South Ward MCA Waithera Chege during Christmas outreach./HANDOUT

As the festive season draws near and the holiday spirit fills the air, Nairobi County Assembly Deputy Minority Leader Waithera Chege has issued a heartfelt appeal to parents and guardians: safeguard your children.

Speaking during a generous Christmas outreach in her Nairobi South Ward, where she distributed essential foodstuffs, comfortable mattresses, warm blankets, and much-needed cash to families profoundly affected by the recent devastating fire in Fuata Nyayo, Chege emphasized the urgent need to shield children from rising dangers that often escalate during the holidays.

"This is a time for joy and togetherness, but it’s also when our children are most vulnerable," Chege warned, her voice resonating with concern.

"We must be vigilant. It takes a village to raise a child, and now more than ever, that village must come together to form an impenetrable shield around our youth."

She highlighted critical threats such as exposure to negative peer influence, the insidious presence of sexual predators, and the devastating scourge of drug abuse, all of which tend to increase when school routines are disrupted and supervision might be relaxed.

Calling for a multi-pronged approach to child protection, the Nairobi South MCA urged security agencies to work hand-in-hand with parents, proactive community leaders, and dedicated local organisations.

This collaborative effort, she stressed, is crucial for creating a truly safe and nurturing environment for the youth during this celebratory period.

In a passionate plea, she also called on law enforcement to intensify patrols and enhance security measures across the entire South B area during the festive period, ensuring that families can celebrate in peace and without fear.

"Let’s make this Christmas not just merry, but profoundly safe for every child, every family, and every home," she concluded, her words a powerful call to action for the entire community.
