Gor Mahia defender Sylvester Ochieng says the record league champions are determined to maintain their winning momentum when they face Nairobi United on Sunday in the SportPesa Premier League, as the title race begins to take shape.

“It will be a chance to redeem ourselves again. We will do everything possible to ensure we win all our matches,” said Ochieng.

K’Ogalo head into the encounter top of the standings with 23 points, holding a two-point advantage over KCB and Kenya Police FC, who are level on 21 points.

Gor Mahia have so far recorded five wins, five draws and three losses to establish themselves as early pace-setters. Sunday’s fixture offers Gor Mahia an opportunity to consolidate their position against Nairobi United, who are 11th on the table with 16 points from 10 matches as they continue to adjust to top-flight football.

Ochieng said consistency and discipline remain key within the camp. “Every match is important for this club. We know what is required of us, and we are focused on delivering results,” he noted, adding that game management will be crucial against a resilient Nairobi United side.

Gor Mahia are expected to conclude preparations later this week ahead of the clash as they seek to protect their lead at the summit. Ochieng also acknowledged that fatigue remains a concern following involvement in the African Nations Championship (CHAN), but insisted it has not affected the team’s ambitions.

“Since CHAN, we have worked really hard. Some of us didn’t get enough rest, but we are managing and pushing for good performances,” said Ochieng, who was part of the Harambee Stars squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2024 CHAN.
