“If elected, I will ensure that our security forces are properly equipped, professionally led, and fully supported to defeat those who threaten our people and our nation.”

The presidential hopeful emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the Federal Government and regional administrations, noting that unity and coordination are essential to winning the fight against extremism.

He also highlighted the importance of intelligence reform, border security, and cutting off financial and logistical support to terrorist groups.

Ige further underscored the role of international partnerships, praising the unwavering support of global allies, including the US, the UK, Australia, the UAE and the neighboring countries of Kenya and Ethiopia.

The presidential candidate pledged to deepen cooperation with neighboring countries and global allies in counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and capacity building, while ensuring that Somalia retains full ownership of its security strategy.

He linked improved security to broader national goals, including economic growth, investment, and social stability, arguing that lasting peace is the foundation upon which Somalia’s future prosperity must be built.

Ige previously served as a Senior Political Advisor to both the President and the Prime Minister of Somalia.

He announced his candidature for the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Somalia in the upcoming 2026 presidential election in November.

He is among at least five persons who have declared interest in the country’s presidency including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is seeking re-election, Abshir Aden Ferro, Abdi Farah Shirdon, and Former President Mohamed Abdullahi “Farmaajo”.

Current President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud current mandate set to end on May 15, 2026.

In March, Somalia's parliament unanimously approved a bill overhauling the country's electoral system to reintroduce universal suffrage, which allows the one-man, one-vote electoral system, moving away from indirect clan-based system.
