With thousands of Kenyans heading to their ancestral homes, the government is emphasising the use of alternative routes to bypass traditional bottlenecks.

For those travelling from Nairobi to Western Kenya and Nyanza, the traditional highway through Nakuru is expected to be heavily congested. To alleviate this, motorists are advised to utilize the Nairobi – Suswa – Narok route.

Similarly, travelers heading to Nakuru and beyond are encouraged to take the Nairobi – Nyeri – Nyahururu – Nakuru circuit. These diversions are designed to spread the traffic load across the road network, reducing the likelihood of the gridlock often seen during the Christmas period.

Enforcement and support services have been significantly scaled up to maintain order. The Ministry of Defence is providing logistical and air support to monitor traffic patterns from above and respond to emergencies.

On the ground, the EACC has deployed officers to deter bribery, while mobile courts are being stationed along major highways to provide instant monitoring and enforcement of traffic laws.
