Kenyan journalist Muthoni wa Kirumba, widely known as Babytop, has issued a public appeal to two influential figures: renowned journalist Larry Madowo and State House official Dennis Itumbi.
The appeal asks them to champion an extraordinary feat of environmental activism.
Muthoni wants Madowo and Itumbi to petition the Guinness World Records (GWR) to recognise and reward the achievement of environmental activist and scout, Truphena Muthoni.

The Historic 72-Hour Challenge
Truphena Muthoni recently completed a grueling 72-hour tree-hugging challenge. The unique endurance feat was completed on Thursday.
Muthoni undertook the challenge to raise awareness about environmental conservation and climate action.
Her act symbolised a deep commitment to nature. The endurance required for the three-day, non-stop embrace of a tree captured national attention.
Babytop's appeal, shared across social media, aims to move the achievement beyond local recognition. She believes the record deserves global validation from Guinness World Records.
"Larry Madowo and Dennis Itumbi, please petition Guinness World Records to recognize and reward Truphena Muthoni’s 72-hour tree-hugging challenge."

Walking Away with Incentives
While awaiting potential global recognition, Truphena Muthoni did not complete her challenge empty-handed.
Her dedication attracted significant local support and incentives from well-wishers and organisations.

Following her historic record, the environmental activist was rewarded with several incentives. Odibets stepped forward with a KSh 1 million contribution to support Muthoni’s environmental initiatives, including tree-planting drives, climate awareness efforts, and long-term sustainability campaigns across the country.
She was also reportedly awarded an expensive Samsung mobile phone.
Furthermore, she reportedly received an all-expenses-paid trip to an undisclosed coastal destination. This trip served as a much-needed retreat after the demanding 72-hour physical challenge.

The Power of Petition
Muthoni wa Kirumba specifically targeted Larry Madowo, a globally recognised CNN journalist, and Dennis Itumbi, a key figure in the Presidential machinery.
This strategic naming highlights her belief that their influence is necessary to successfully navigate the GWR petition process.
Madowo’s global platform could provide the visibility needed for the record application. Itumbi’s role in the government's creative and special projects sphere could offer necessary logistical and political support.
The challenge now rests with them to take up the mantle and transform a local act of devotion into a globally recognised world record.

A Growing Trend in Kenya
Truphena Muthoni’s challenge is part of a growing trend in Kenya. Over the past few years, numerous Kenyans have attempted various GWR records.
These challenges often range from culinary endurance (like the longest cooking marathon) to unique feats of physical and mental endurance.
This national zeal for GWR titles often starts with a social media campaign before escalating into a formal, often government-backed, recognition attempt.
Muthoni’s tree-hugging challenge stands out for its specific environmental theme, linking a personal endurance test to a critical global issue.
