Coach Warinda warns Mofa over complacency ahead of Gucha duel

Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) head coach Charles Warinda has urged his players to stay grounded following their emphatic 4–0 victory over second-placed Mombasa United.
It was MOFA’s biggest win of the season, but Warinda warned against complacency. “We take the win, but we shouldn’t be carried away. We have a game on Tuesday, and we must focus on it. All our attention now goes to that match,” he said.
MOFA will travel to Kisii for a clash with the newly promoted Gucha Stars on Tuesday. Reflecting on the result, Warinda added: “Four goals against Mombasa is good, but I demand more from the boys. There is nothing to celebrate yet; we must keep working. I must also appreciate my defenders for keeping a second consecutive clean sheet.”
Despite the heavy defeat, Warinda acknowledged that Mombasa United remain a quality side, sitting second in the standings. In the match played at Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Laban Otieno scored a brace, taking his tally to six goals this season, while Japhet Odoke — known as Odo —
and George Ogutu also scored.
Warinda praised Otieno but challenged him to maintain his form. “There is no room for him to relax. He must keep working because there is a lot of competition within the team and in the league. He cannot take a back seat.”
He also commended Odoke’s contribution. “He has been improving in every game. His work on and off the ball has been excellent, and he has been very consistent. I hope he scores more goals,” he said.
Defender Kimwaga Kalunga, who was named man of the match, expressed confidence that MOFA will achieve their target of qualifying for the SportPesa Premier League.
“We shall take all our games as finals,” said the towering defender.
The win temporarily lifted MOFA to fourth on the table with 16 points from 10 matches. The side has now recorded four wins, four draws and two losses. Mombasa United, meanwhile, missed the chance to go top after their heavy defeat in Kisumu.
Elsewhere, Equity Bank returned to winning ways with a 3–1 victory over Mully Children’s Family (MCF), while former FKF Premier League sides Nairobi City Stars and Nzoia Sugar played out a 1–1 draw.
