The passing of gospel singer Betty Bayo ignited a significant national discussion regarding the future of her two children, Sky Victor and Danny.
The debate centres on who should take the lead in raising them: their biological father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, or Betty’s husband, Hiram “Tash” Gitau.
While many Kenyans online have argued over whether biological ties or day-to-day presence matter more, TikToker Obidan Dela has shed light on a specific set of concerns held by those opposing Kanyari taking full custody.
Dela recently spoke during an interview with online media, stating that the main issue is the environment surrounding the prophet.

The Unsuitable Environment
A significant portion of the opposition to Pastor Kanyari is driven by the perceived negative influence of his current entourage.
Dela referred to the people around the man of God as "wazimu," a term meaning "mad" or "crazy" people. He strongly believes that this surrounding group must be removed.
Dela contended that these individuals would "come and destroy these children" if custody were granted.
“Pastor Kanyari himself doesn’t have any problem with anybody. But a lot of people are against him taking full custody of the kids because of the surroundings,” Dela said.
Exploitation and Controversial Behaviour
Dela detailed several reasons why the current environment is deemed inappropriate for children.
He specifically highlighted the presence of women who, according to the sources he cited, engage in controversial behaviour while around the pastor.

He mentioned "warembo" (beautiful women) who are allegedly seen doing waxing in the prophet’s presence.

Furthermore, some women claim the prophet provides massages. Dela noted the danger when women take advantage of the pastor's single status and emotional nature.
“He is surrounded by girls doing waxing in front of him as a servant of God, others are there asking him to massage them… some of these things make people feel like Kanyari is not a suitable person to be with the kids.”
The TikTokker recounted instances where women allegedly made suggestive comments to the prophet.
Dela insisted that such an atmosphere prevents people from allowing Kanyari to have the children.
“Watu wengi wanampiga vita because of hao wazimu.” (Many people are fighting him because of those mad people.)

Kanyari’s Reputation and Financial Commitment
Despite fierce criticism from Kanyari's inner circle, Dela clarified that the prophet himself is loved by many.
He described Kanyari as a generous person who has a very big heart. People fight him not because of who he is, but because of the individuals who surround him.
Dela also claimed that Kanyari has acknowledged the need for change. The TikToker mentioned that they have discussed these issues, and Kanyari agreed to change at a personal level.
Kanyari is also reportedly looking for a new wife who can be an "accountable" partner.
Meanwhile, Kanyari has been praised for remaining financially committed to his children. He has consistently paid their school fees and participated in court-sanctioned co-parenting arrangements.
He also publicly acknowledged and respected Tash for being present with the children daily during Betty’s life.

The Legal Reality
While the debate rages online and focuses on biological ties versus behavioural conduct, legal experts have reminded the public that the ultimate decision will be made by the courts.
The singular guiding principle in such cases remains the best interests of the children.
The national conversation reflects a divided country, yet everyone shares the same hope: that Betty Bayo's children will find stability and care during this painful transition.
