Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has shared an emotional tribute to the late Beryl Achieng Odinga, sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Nyamu's post revealed a private concern Beryl held regarding the Senator's well-known social media presence.
Beryl Achieng passed away on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, at a Nairobi hospital. Her death came just one month after the burial of her prominent brother, Raila Odinga.
Nyamu shared her tribute via Instagram, expressing shock and sadness at the loss.

A Private Concern Over Digital Attacks
In her post, Senator Nyamu disclosed that Beryl had a "soft spot" for her during their time working together. This soft spot led Beryl to frequently express worry about Nyamu’s public image and online battles.
Beryl’s concern was directly focused on how the Senator managed her digital conflicts. Nyamu is often a target of social media trolling and public commentary.
“Lately, she had been very concerned about how I handle social media trolls. But little did she know, the trolls hadhad made me,” Nyamu said.
Nyamu believes that while the advice came from a place of care, the constant digital conflict has ultimately helped shape her resilience.
Shared History on the Nairobi Water Board
The bond between the two women was forged through professional collaboration. Karen Nyamu and Beryl Achieng served together on the board of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company.

Beryl held the authoritative position of Chair on the board. Nyamu recalled their professional relationship warmly.
She ended her tribute by calling Beryl her "osiep chunya" (a Dholuo term meaning 'friend of my heart') and affirming her respect for Beryl’s leadership.
"Forever the best Chair ever!"
The picture accompanying Nyamu’s post captured a candid moment of their friendship. It showed the two women seated closely together outdoors, both smiling and looking relaxed.

Nyamu, wearing a khaki-coloured top and a scarf wrapped around her head, leaned in towards Beryl, who was dressed in a dark top with a headscarf and sunglasses, completed with a face mask.
The Odinga Family’s Continuous Grief
Beryl Achieng’s death has plunged the prominent Odinga political family into fresh mourning. The loss follows the passing and burial of her brother, the late former Prime Minister, on 19 October 2025.
Beryl was the daughter of the late Hon. Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. Her death was confirmed by her sister, Ruth Odinga, via a public Facebook post on the afternoon of November 25.
Senator Nyamu’s post indicated that she knew something was wrong when Beryl did not attend the former Prime Minister's funeral.
"When she didn’t attend Baba’s funeral, I knew something was wrong."
Nyamu concluded her message with a simple goodbye to her late colleague.
"Rest in peace, Osiep Chunya."
