The family of Kenya's late former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has been plunged into fresh mourning just a month after his passing.
The sadness follows the death of his sister, Beryl Achieng, who passed away on Tuesday, 25 November 2025.
The tragic news comes as a further blow to the prominent political dynasty.
The Announcement of Loss
Beryl Achieng died at a Nairobi hospital. Ruth Odinga, through her Facebook page, confirmed her death on the afternoon of November 25.

“It is with a heavy heart, but accepting the will of God, we announce the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga. Daughter of the Late Hon Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga. Mother to Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.”
Ruth did not disclose the specific cause of death when sharing the news.
Beryl Achieng was the daughter of the late Hon Jaramogi Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga.

She was described in one source as the late former Prime Minister’s "elder sister", though other sources confirm she was the youngest in the Odinga family.
Ruth Odinga added that while the family is deeply saddened and notes the immense void left, they find comfort believing Beryl is "safe in the Lord's arms".
A Life Dedicated to Public Service
Despite the intense political prominence of her family, Beryl maintained a notably low public profile.
She chose not to engage in active politics like some of her relatives. Instead, she focused on a career as a trained professional.
Beryl held numerous leadership roles across various public institutions, both within Kenya and internationally.

A Trailblazer in Zimbabwe. One of Beryl’s most significant achievements was making history in Zimbabwe. She became the first Black Town Clerk of Mutare, which is Zimbabwe’s third-largest city.
Continuous Grief for the Odinga Family
The news, confirmed on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, has extended a period of grief for the prominent Kenyan family. They expressed gratitude for the valuable time they were privileged to share with her.
The loss marks another sad chapter for the Oginga lineage following the death of the late former Prime Minister, who was buried on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in a private ceremony at his ancestral home in Bondo, Kenya.
Dealing with two major losses in such a short space of time is like having two foundations removed from a home almost simultaneously; the structure is left significantly vulnerable and reeling from instability.
