Kalonzo, accompanied by senior United Opposition leaders and MPs, urged residents to support Panyako, describing the Malava seat as important for strengthening opposition representation in Western Kenya.

Speaking to residents, he expressed concerns about government influence during the by-election.

“Kenyans have made a choice; the people of Malava must stand against empty promises,” Kalonzo said.

He also criticised President William Ruto’s Sh5 trillion infrastructure project, calling it “all hot air.”

Kalonzo urged residents to turn out in large numbers, vote peacefully, and defend their decision at the ballot.

The Malava by-election has attracted significant attention, with both government and opposition camps viewing it as a key indicator of political support ahead of the 2027 elections.

DAP-K’s Seth Panyako is facing competition from UDA candidate David Ndakwa, whose campaign is being supported by party leadership.

The seat fell vacant following the death of former MP Malulu Injendi earlier this year.

Kalonzo’s campaign team included DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee deputy leader Fred Matiang’i, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, DCP party leader Cleophas Malala, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua addressed the meeting virtually, urging voters to support the joint opposition candidate.

“We must rally behind the DAP-K candidate and send a clear message,” he said.

Khalwale raised concerns about law enforcement during the by-election, saying voters should be free to make their choice.

“This is Luhyaland, and we will not be cowed,” he said.

Eugene Wamalwa said the opposition team is committed to winning the by-elections and sending a message to the current administration.

“We are here to plead with you that on November 27, when you go back to the ballot, you send them home,” he said.
