From a veteran statesman to young, promising artists, the deaths have collectively cast a shadow over the national mood.
Political Titan: Raila Odinga
The most significant loss was that of former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga.
The seasoned politician, affectionately known as "Baba," died on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, while undergoing medical treatment in India. He was 80 years old.
Odinga, who had been a dominant force in Kenyan politics for decades, succumbed to a heart attack.

Reports indicated he collapsed during a morning walk at an Ayurvedic facility in Kerala, where he had been staying.

President William Ruto declared a seven-day national mourning period in his honour. The flags were flown at half-mast. The President also confirmed that Odinga would be accorded a state funeral with full honours, underscoring his immense contribution to the nation's democracy and reforms.
Gospel Star: Betty Bayo
The gospel music community was hit hard by the death of beloved artist Betty Bayo, who passed away on Monday, 10 November 2025.
Bayo was confirmed to have died at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after a long battle with blood cancer, specifically acute mild leukaemia.
The condition caused severe complications, including excessive bleeding, which led to her hospitalisation.
Her family confirmed her passing and announced plans to move her body to the Kenyatta University Referral Mortuary. Tributes poured in for the singer, known for her spiritually resonant lyrics and songs like'11th Hour'.
Bayo will be laid to rest at her land along Kiambu Road on November 20.

Musical Promise Cut Short: Shalkido
The Gengetone and Mugithi music scene was plunged into mourning with the sudden death of Kevin Mburu Kinyanju, known by his stage name, Shalkido. The former Sailors Gang member died in early October.
Shalkido was involved in a serious motorcycle accident on Sunday, 5 October 2025, along Thika Road. He was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
Doctors declared the 28-year-old artist brain-dead due to extensive internal bleeding and severe brain damage. His funeral took place on 16 October 2025, as announced by his grieving family in Ruiru.
His death sparked a national conversation about road safety and the struggles faced by young artists.

Media Veterans and Rising Stars
The media fraternity also mourned the loss of veteran broadcaster and state Master of Ceremony, Sammy Lui Wang'ondu.
