Popular Kenyan TikToker and photographer Faustine 'Baba Talisha' has shared his deep frustration after tracking one of his stolen mobile phones across the border into Uganda.

The high-profile content creator, known for his work in the entertainment scene, fell victim to what appears to be an organised theft ring operating at large public events.

The unfortunate incident saw the loss of his iPhone 15 Pro Max, which was quickly moved out of the country despite initial successful tracking.

The Great Escape

After the extended dwell time in Ngong, the phone began a rapid movement out of the area. It was soon tracked heading towards Kisumu, a journey of about 355 kilometres.

Screenshots from the Find My app showed the device traveling along the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway.

Baba Talisha theorised that the phones were being transported by bus. Long-distance coaches often make short stops, and he noted that the phone paused for about twenty minutes, consistent with a bus stop.

“In the night, around 11 p.m., when I checked, I realized the phone was on transit heading towards Kisumu. It was somewhere around Ahero. I immediately knew where it was being takento - Uganda. Actually, the phone got transported in a bus because I could tell juu walikaaa mahali for about 20 mins, vile long-distance buses normally do.”

The phone's location then jumped across the border. It was last successfully tracked in Jinja – Kampala Road, Mukono, Uganda.

Shortly after reaching its final traced destination, the thieves successfully signed out of the owner’s iCloud account. This disabled the Find My function, meaning the iPhone could no longer be located, placed in Lost Mode, or remotely erased.

The message received read: "Find My has been disabled on iPhone."

He suggested that phone thieves operate with ruthless efficiency, targeting crowded events.

His anguish, however, was not about the financial cost of the devices, but the crucial content held inside.

“It's not about the phones. It’s about what was inside ??,” he wrote in one story, adding in another: “The work that was on those phones, I had some court documents on one phone that has a final judgment tomorrow.”
