During a Chanuka Jipange na Business Opportunities training in Muminji Ward, organised by 20X Entrepreneur Ltd, more than 500 community leaders, pastors, and entrepreneurs gathered to reflect on a simple but critical question: What is in it for me — as a citizen of Mbeere North?
Participants were challenged to think beyond promises and politics and instead examine how leadership choices connect to real opportunities -water, electricity, roads, markets, and livelihoods. The discussion exposed striking contrasts: the Tana River passes through Mbeere North, yet many households lack clean water; the Kiambere Dam powers the nation, yet local homes remain dark; sand is harvested daily, yet feeder roads remain impassable.
The dialogue shifted from blame to strategy. “Sometimes fighting government seems fashionable,” one participant observed, “but does it help us get what’s in it for us?” The session introduced the WII-FM principle — “What’s In It For Me” — encouraging residents to assess how policies and leadership directly translate to value in their own lives.
At the heart of the training was a transformative message: money is a reward for value added. Communities prosper when citizens align with leaders and policies that enable value creation rather than resistance. Eunice Mburu, CEO of 20X Entrepreneur Ltd and founder of the Chanuka Jipange initiative, summarized it this way: “Our goal is not to tell people who to vote for, but to help them see the connection between their mindset, their choices, and their opportunities.
Every Kenyan must learn to ask — what value am I adding, and how do my decisions increase or reduce that value? Once that question becomes part of our civic and economic culture, transformation will follow naturally.”
As the by-election nears, the message from Muminji is clear: development follows clarity, not noise. The call is for citizens to choose leaders who connect them with opportunities, not just emotions- and to make decisions anchored on value, not rhetoric.
