Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Kenya Police Service Eliud Lagat has called for the equipping of officers with modern tools to effectively address increasingly sophisticated crimes.

Lagat said the evolving security landscape demands capacity building to tackle emerging threats such as cyber-enabled offences, transnational organised crime, financial crimes, and terrorism.

He emphasised that continuous research and training are key to strengthening the police service and improving its overall performance.

“We encourage all officers to keep expanding their knowledge. This will help in addressing challenges in society,” he said.

Lagat made the remarks while presiding over the closing ceremony of the International Police Association (IPA) seminar on “Strengthening Professional Policing and Crime Management” held on November 6, 2025.

He noted that the seminar provided a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and investigative methodologies among members of the global law enforcement community.

The DIG urged participants to apply the skills and insights gained to improve investigative outcomes, uphold respect for human rights, and enhance service delivery within their respective commands.

The five-day seminar, held at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) in South C, Nairobi, brought together 32 officers from various law enforcement agencies to build investigative competence and promote international collaboration.

Lagat commended the IPA and the NCIA management for their commitment to professional development and international cooperation. He also thanked the facilitators for sharing their expertise and congratulated the participants on completing the seminar.

Reaffirming the National Police Service’s commitment to international collaboration, Lagat said partnerships such as the IPA play a vital role in strengthening collective efforts to combat crime and promote global peace and security.

He further encouraged the officers to serve as ambassadors of professionalism, discipline, and dedication.

Also present at the ceremony were NCIA Commandant Sospeter Munyi, IPA President Jared Ojuok, IJM representative Harron Gilbert, and veteran IPA member F.S. Abdalla, among other officials.
