President William Ruto during the commissioning of a Sh2.7 billion power transmission line and sub-station in Kajiado South/PCSPresident William Ruto has commissioned a Sh2.7 billion power transmission line and sub-station in Kajiado South, in a move the government says will improve electricity supply and support economic activity in the region.
Ruto commissioned the Sultan Hamud-Loitoktok 132kV Transmission Line and Loitoktok Sub-Station at Kimana, Kajiado South Constituency on Thursday.
The President said the project would provide a more reliable electricity supply to Kajiado South and parts of Makueni County, while supporting economic transformation in the areas served by the infrastructure.
He said the government had also allocated more funds to connect more homes in Kajiado South to electricity.

Ruto said the investments were part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda to unlock local opportunities.
“Under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, we are investing in infrastructure that unlocks opportunity at the local level, empowers communities and enables businesses to grow,” he said.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi on his part highlighted that the projects would improve the stability, reliability and quality of electricity supplied to Kajiado County and neighbouring areas.
The President also commissioned the Namanga Sub-Station in Kajiado Central Constituency, another Kenya Electricity Transmission Company project forming part of the 132kV Machakos-Konza-Isinya-Namanga Transmission Line.
"The project will strengthen the reliability and stability of power supply in the region and support the growing economic activities along the border," he noted.
The President's tour of Kajiado also included inspections of several development and infrastructure projects across the county.
At Namanga, he inspected the progress of the Sh50 million Namanga Modern Market, which is expected to provide trading space for 120 traders and support commercial activity in the border town.
He also inspected the construction of the Kimana Modern Market in Kajiado South Constituency.
Other projects inspected included the Kajiado Town Students' Hostels and an Affordable Housing Project in Kajiado Central, among other ongoing developments.
Ruto said the projects formed part of his administration's efforts to spread national development investments across the country.
“We will not relent in our pursuit of equity and inclusive development, ensuring that every region of Kenya benefits from the opportunities and investments of our national transformation agenda,” he said.
Several areas were at the centre of the President’s visit, including Rombo, Loitoktok, Kimana, Namanga and Kajiado Town, where he inspected projects and addressed rallies.
The government has increasingly linked investments in electricity infrastructure to its broader economic development plans, arguing that improved power supply can support businesses, industries and other economic activities at the local level.
