Wycliffe Oparanya, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, offered a moment of unexpected candour during a high-profile wedding over the weekend.
The former Governor of Kakamega revealed he is not qualified to give advice to newlyweds.
The CS was speaking at the wedding ceremony uniting Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang and his fiancée, Chanelle Kittony.
Oparanya, who is known to be a proud polygamous man, admitted he prefers to keep his own marriage issues private.
Apart from having two wives, Oparanya has a girlfriend who introduced herself to the public mid-last year, 2024.

He made the light-hearted yet serious declaration while addressing the couple and high-ranking guests, including the President.
A Unique Confession at the Altar
Addressing Senator Chesang and Chanelle Kittony, the CS stated clearly that marriage guidance was not his strength.
Oparanya openly confessed, "I'm not the best advisor when it comes those issues, I keep it to myself thank you".

The comment drew laughter from attendees, including the President. The master of ceremonies immediately joked about the statement.
The host remarked that he was concerned Oparanya might encourage the couple to follow his personal marriage practices.
Political Friendships and Personal Ties
CS Oparanya confirmed his long-standing personal and political connection to the couple. He explained that he had received invitations from both sides of the family for the wedding.
He detailed his friendship with Senator Chesang. Oparanya stated that he knew Chesang long before the Senator became a Member of Parliament.

Their connection continued even while they were in different political parties. Oparanya stressed that despite political differences, "we are one people".
The Senator also consulted Oparanya when he sought to become a Senator.
Connections Across the Aisle
Oparanya highlighted the continued warmth of their friendship. When Oparanya was appointed to the Cabinet by His Excellency the President, Senator Chesang was among the first to congratulate him.
Chesang was also noted as the first person from outside Oparanya’s immediate community to offer congratulations.
Furthermore, the CS confirmed he also knew the bride’s side of the family. He stated that he received an invitation from the Kittonys, the bride's family.

The Cabinet Secretary confirmed that he was accompanying the President to the function. Oparanya mentioned that he and his colleagues had been with the President in the Western region for three days.
He ultimately wished Allan and Chanelle all success in their new life together. The CS then stepped away from the podium. His candid comments regarding marriage advice concluded his brief but memorable speech.
Senator Allan Chesang and his fiancée Chanelle Kittony tied the knot on Saturday at a grand traditional wedding ceremony held in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
