The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced the arrest of a TikTok user following the release of a viral video on social media. The individual, identified as Roy Otieno Odhiambo, was apprehended after allegedly making a sensational claim.
Mr Odhiambo had reportedly published what detectives have termed "false information" on his social media page. This information revolved around an alleged plot to commit a serious crime.
The arrest underscores the authorities' commitment to monitoring content on digital platforms. It also highlights the serious consequences for individuals who disseminate unverified or malicious claims online.

The Viral Assassination Allegation
The incident stems from a video posted on October 20, 2025. In this content, Mr Odhiambo, described as an "outspoken TikToker," made a shocking allegation.
He claimed that he had received a payment of Ksh 3.5 million. According to the video, this large sum was to be used to assassinate a prominent, but unnamed, politician.
“Detectives have arrested Roy Otieno Odhiambo for allegedly publishing false information on his TikTok page.

In a viral video posted on October 20, 2025, the outspoken TikToker claimed that he had been paid Ksh 3.5 million to assassinate a prominent individual,” DCI reported.
The DCI took this claim seriously. They initiated an immediate investigation into the grave nature of the allegation. Publishing such a video, regardless of its truthfulness, can cause public alarm and distress.

Apprehension in Malindi
Following a detailed investigation, DCI detectives successfully located and arrested the suspect. Mr Odhiambo was nabbed at his hideout in the coastal town of Malindi.
The DCI confirmed the action in an official statement on their social media page.
Once arrested, the suspect was processed by the authorities. He now awaits formal arraignment in court, where he will face charges related to the allegations. The authorities did not reveal the specific charges at the time of the announcement.
Background of Social Media Crackdown
The arrest of Roy Otieno Odhiambo is not an isolated incident. It follows a clear trend of the DCI taking action against content creators on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.
In recent months, the DCI has been keen to clamp down on misuse of these platforms. This has included the arrest of several prominent TikTokers for a variety of alleged offences.
For instance, another popular TikToker, Shedrack Omondi Okindo, known as Hon. Mosquito, was arrested earlier this year. His apprehension related to allegations of sharing videos that supported an anti-police group.
In another high-profile case, the DCI arrested a popular content creator named Kakan Maiyo at his business premises.

Furthermore, a TikToker named Rish Kamunge was arrested over an alleged fake overseas jobs scam.
These actions suggest a persistent effort by the DCI to regulate content shared online. The cases often involve allegations ranging from fraud and defamation to sharing 'insightful' or false information.
The current investigation into Mr Odhiambo’s assassination claim marks a severe new level of alleged misuse of the platform.
