Kenyan activist and politician Boniface Mwangi has spoken out strongly against a viral incident involving a Dutch national who was captured on video assaulting and verbally abusing Kenyan police officers during his arrest in Diani, Kwale County.
The viral footage, which has sparked public outrage, shows the foreigner behaving aggressively toward police officers — at one point throwing mucus at a female officer who maintained her composure throughout the confrontation.
According to police reports, the man was arrested at Boma Banda Cottages after allegedly assaulting his Kenyan girlfriend.
When officers responded to the incident, the suspect reportedly became violent, insulting and confronting the officers as they attempted to restrain him.
“No Excuse for Such Disrespect” — Boniface Mwangi Reacts
In a lengthy Instagram post, Boniface Mwangi criticized both the foreigner’s behavior and the Kenyan police’s apparent restraint, describing the incident as an example of how “whiteness” often influences law enforcement reactions in Kenya.
“Kenyan police have a reputation for being problematic, corrupt, and violent, but this level of disrespect toward a police officer is unacceptable,” Mwangi wrote. “The foreigner captured in this video deserves to be prosecuted, jailed, and then deported.”

The activist, known for his outspoken views on governance and justice, added that the situation would have likely turned deadly had a Kenyan behaved the same way toward a police officer.
“I can guarantee that if it had been a Kenyan who dared to do this to an officer, he would have been beaten to death. Kenyan police fear whiteness and anyone who looks rich,” he continued.
Call for Police Reform
Beyond condemning the foreigner’s actions, Mwangi used the incident to reignite discussions about police reform and accountability in Kenya.

He proposed that all current police officers should undergo retraining, with those unfit for service being retired.
Mwangi emphasized that under his leadership, police officers would receive better pay, improved working conditions, and union representation — a move aimed at restoring dignity and professionalism within the force.
“As President, I shall send all current police officers for retraining and retire those who cannot be retrained. We shall pay police better, upgrade police stations, and have officers live within the community. The police will be allowed to have a union to fight for their rights,” he stated.
Public Reaction and Ongoing Investigation
The viral video has stirred strong emotions online, with many Kenyans demanding justice and equal treatment under the law. Others echoed Mwangi’s sentiments, questioning why the suspect appeared to receive lenient handling despite his aggression.
Police sources have confirmed that the foreign national remains in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have promised a full report once the case is concluded.
