Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, aged 55, is currently serving a prison sentence.Combs has now been given an official date for his release. This follows his conviction on prostitution-related charges.
He continues to serve his time following two prostitution-related convictions. Combs was found guilty of two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution.

The rap mogul may be released from prison in three years. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Background to the Conviction
Combs was convicted of charges relating to his ex-girlfriends. These women included Cassie Ventura and a woman referred to as "Jane". Combs had pleaded not guilty to all charges he faced.
The jury delivered a split verdict earlier this year. He was acquitted of the most serious charges against him. Combs was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy counts.
Combs’ lead attorney, Teny Geragos, highlighted the not guilty verdicts. She stressed that the jury had made their stance very clear.

Credit for Time Served
The 50-month sentence took into account time Combs had already spent in custody. Combs received credit for the 12 months (one year) he served after his arrest in September 2024.
Federal prosecutors had pushed for a much longer sentence. They argued Combs deserved at least 11 years in prison. This was a proposed sentence of 135 months. Combs' lawyers had asked for a term of no more than 14 months.
Judge Arun Subramanian imposed the 50-month sentence. He stated that the prosecution’s proposal was excessive.

The Possibility of Appeal
Combs and his legal team intend to appeal his conviction and his prison sentence. Attorney Alexandra Shapiro is leading the team handling the appeal.

Shapiro argued that the sentence was "totally inconsistent with the jury verdict".
Combs also has one route to potentially reduce his time in prison. His sentence could be reduced by 12 months. This would only happen if he is accepted into and successfully completes a Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). This treatment programme lasts between 9 and 12 months.
