Samuel Muigai, who bears an uncanny resemblance to comedian Eric Omondi, has spoken out about the struggles his unexpected fame has created, sending a direct and heartfelt appeal to the renowned activist.
The man, who identifies himself as Samuel Kahatha Muigai, appeared in an interview with content creator Trudy Kitui. Muigai revealed that he hails from Nyandarua.
He is 26 years old and has a wife and a small child.
The Nyandarua Double Speaks
During the interview, the content creator noted that seeing Muigai was like seeing her "best friend Eric Omondi". Muigai has embraced the nickname, sometimes calling himself "Eric Omondi Msoto low budget".

He explained that he first realized the resemblance in 2020, immediately after finishing college and starting his job search. The very first person who saw him looking for employment called him "Eric Omondi".
Muigai admitted that he often compared his photos to those of the comedian, saying he looks like his own brother.
A Direct Appeal to the Activist
Muigai used the platform to send a message directly to Eric Omondi, whom he referred to as his "brother" or "twin brother". Omondi is over 40, while Muigai is 26.
Muigai emphasized that he is seeking life assistance and stability.
“My brother Eric, I’m looking forward to meeting you, and you help me with life, even if it’s not money, you can help me find a job,” appealed Muigai.
He added that meeting Omondi could also help him professionally by building his public profile and follower count on platforms like YouTube. Muigai has a YouTube channel.

A Life of Mistaken Identity
Despite the viral attention, life as an Omondi lookalike has presented significant challenges for Muigai. He trained as a plumber and holds the necessary tools and letters of certification.
However, the resemblance sometimes prevents him from earning a living. Muigai stated that when he attempts to find construction work, employers sometimes turn him away.
"You go to look for that job, and he tells you, 'No, we cannot give an artist work.' At that time, you are not an artist," Muigai explained.
Muigai also revealed that being mistaken for the celebrity frequently results in awkward situations, such as people leaving restaurant bills for him to pay.
“Sometimes I get sad because when someone leaves the bill or says you should pay... if you refuse or you lack [money], someone tells you, ‘Go away, Omondi, go away, you have nothing,’” he shared.
He confirmed that he is currently facing significant financial difficulties, noting that he has not been able to find any work this month.
Background to Omondi’s Quest
Muigai’s story emerges just as Eric Omondi, whose career shifted from comedy (starting in 2008) to social and political advocacy, has been actively seeking a physical double.
The comedian-turned-activist initiated a public search for a lookalike found in Githurai, Nairobi, hoping to form an "activist duo".

Omondi, known for his protests against the high cost of living and unemployment, specifically wants to divide responsibilities.

He stated that one version of himself could focus on his philanthropic 'Sisi Kwa Sisi' movement while the other handles street demonstrations ('Maandamano').
Muigai has tried contacting Eric Omondi since 2020 through numbers found on his Facebook page, but received no response. The interviewer promised to help arrange a meeting between the lookalikes.
