Kenya's Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumption has shown a significant upward trend, particularly in the most recent periods recorded.
Consumption measured in thousands of metric tonnes ('000 MT) across financial years running from July to June.
The period 2020/21 began with consumption at 356.05 '000 MT, which dipped slightly in the following two years to 342.76 '000 MT in 2021/22 and 340.68 '000 MT in 2022/23.
However, a robust recovery and substantial increase began in 2023/24, when consumption rose to 388.96 '000 MT. The growth accelerated sharply in the 2024/25 period, reaching a peak of 443.95 '000 MT.
This final figure represents the highest consumption in the five-year series and indicates a strong and growing reliance on LPG as a cooking and heating fuel source within the country.
