The Tragedy of April 2024

Joseph Mwaduli, a Form Four student at Chavakali Boys High School, died unexpectedly on April 1, 2024. The death occurred during a bus accident while students were travelling home for the April holiday.

The accident happened along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway at the Mamboleo junction in Kisumu County. Reports indicated that the bus driver lost control at the Mamboleo roundabout.

Joseph died instantly at the scene. He was the only fatality in the accident. The accident involved the Mbale-Nairobi bus.

At least 33 students were injured and subsequently rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu for treatment.

Kareh B learned about her son’s death through social media. Plans were put in place shortly after the tragedy to transfer Joseph's remains to Nairobi.

Initial Demands for Answers

Following Joseph’s death, Kareh B immediately plunged into grief and began demanding answers about the circumstances surrounding the crash.

She revealed she had been worried about why the school let students travel at night.

She noted that booking issues meant her son did not travel by Easy Coach, which was fully booked by other schools. She questioned why parents who opposed night travel were not given an alternative option.

She felt helpless and heartbroken after the incident.

"I need answers. If only I had been supervising time, you wouldn't have traveled, Joe! But I'm powerless," the artist stated on Facebook.
