He was first seen weeping uncontrollably at the morgue during the viewing of her body.

The intensity of his pain peaked at the gravesite. As church officials prepared to lower the casket, Simat broke down completely.

The moment proved too heavy—he grew weak and nearly collapsed, forcing close friends to hold him up for support as the burial rites continued.

When it came time for the traditional act of throwing soil into the grave, he hesitated, holding the soil for a long time before managing to let go. Friends had to support him to prevent him from collapsing as the burial concluded.
