Sayyid questioned the sincerity of the claim. She suggested that those making such comments, due to being without a partner, might be seen as "fools" by married people.

She implied that the person making the claim might be so bitter that they are complaining about people living their lives.

“I have heard somebody saying that those who are married are fools. Are you serious? Even those in marriage see you as a fool as well because you’ve failed to get a partner and you have become so bitter to the point of envying people’s lives,”  Cashmeer challenged Ronoh.

She concluded that everyone considers the other party a "fool," and proposed that people should live their lives without resorting to name-calling.

“If people are married, why don’t you let them live their lives? They’re happy in their marriages, they have gotten babies, and they see you as a fool because you are angry at everyone around you. You need to heal. I feel like to them, you are a fool, and to you, they are fools. So everyone is a fool, why don’t we live life without name-calling each other?” she posed.

The Initial Spark

Chebet Ronoh posted a short clip online stating plainly: “Guys, I think marriage is for fools”.

The video sparked a heated online debate. Many social media users reacted strongly to the comment.

Some critics accused Ronoh of disrespecting an institution held in high regard culturally and religiously. Others took personal shots at the creator.

Her statement led to divided opinion among her followers. Some insisted she was deliberately courting controversy and dismissing a sacred tradition.

A separate section of her followers defended her. They argued that she was merely expressing a personal belief. They also questioned the societal pressure surrounding marriage.

Ronoh Stands Her Ground

The backlash was swift, but Ronoh did not withdraw her statement. She posted a follow-up video where she directly challenged the people who were offended by her initial remarks.

Ronoh argued that outside views should not easily shake security in one's values.

She suggested that those who reacted negatively were revealing their own insecurities.

"I have a question. If you guys truly believe that marriage is of the essence, why are you offended that a stranger thinks that marriage is foolish?”
