Nick Cannon has opened up about his journey into fatherhood, admitting that having 12 children was more a result of "carelessness" than a deliberate plan.

The TV host and comedian, who shares twins with his ex-wife Mariah Carey, recently spoke about his choices in an interview on The Breakfast Club radio show.

The Aftermath of Divorce

After his divorce from Mariah Carey in 2016, Cannon explained that his life was a whirlwind of newfound freedom, access, and wealth. He said these factors played a big role in his decisions.

"It wasn't like I was acting out. It was more of being careless, being frivolous with my process because I could do it, because I had the money [and] because I had the access to whoever and however, I wanted to move."

He stressed that he didn't set out to have a large family. Instead, he simply "lived life and had fun," believing he could handle whatever happened.

A Look at His Family

Cannon's family has grown significantly over the years. His children include:

Moroccan and Monroe, 14, with Mariah Carey.

Golden, 8, Powerful, 4, and Rise, 2, with Brittany Bell.

Zillion and Zion, 3, and Beautiful, 2, with Abby De La Rosa.

Legendary, 2, with Bre Tiesi.

Onyx, 2, with LaNisha Cole.

Halo, 2, with Alyssa Scott, who is also the mother of his late son Zen.

The Importance of "Inner Work"

Looking back, Cannon believes he should have taken more time to process the trauma of his divorce. He thinks that if he had done more "inner work," things might have turned out differently.

"Now, you're leaving trauma every step of the way instead of fixing it from its origin."

However, he maintains that each of his children was conceived out of love within meaningful relationships.

For now, he says he is "pressing hold" on having any more kids, but he's not ruling it out for the future.
