Trade CS Lee Kinyanjui and Embu Governor Cecily MbarireHe said even if the region does not vote for President William Ruto, just like President Moi, it will not necessarily stop him from being re-elected.
"You want your roads done, you want other things done and at the same time you are singing one-term. What kind of politics is that? I have had a lot of respect for the politics of the region. But I am beginning to rethink,” Kinyanjui said.
He spoke in Embu during ameeting with Governor Cecily Mbarire.
Criticising the residents for being entitled, the CS warned that if they continue taking for granted what they have now, they risk losing it all in the near future.
“I come from a region where we have popularised stupid songs, stupid clarion calls, and we will be sitting in big meetings seeing money and resources going to other regions," he said.
The CS said there will be an upcoming appointment to the National Lands Commission, which will be in place for eight years, but will be hard to vouch for Mt Kenya with its “one-term” campaign.
“He [the President] will call Nyanza and ask, ‘eeh, who do we put here?’, and call the other people. Now, if you are called, will you come singing that song?” he asked.
The CS visited the Embu Aggregation Park, which is
expected to be complete in three months. He also held an investor's round table.
Health PS Mary Muthoni also led a group of leaders from the region in a public engagement forum in Embu County to highlight Ruto's interventions in the health sector.
“The county is making significant progress, leading with 55 per cent SHA registrations which guarantee residents free healthcare at Levels 2, 3 and 4 facilities,” she said.
The PS said recruitment of nurses and doctors is ongoing to ensure all hospitals are fully operational, while the renovation of four Level 4 hospitals and the consistent restocking of medicines are also underway.
Her Defence counterpart, Patrick Mariru, launched a new regional office Block for the Office of the Auditor General, accompanied by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu and Mbarire.
Mariru said the significance of the project was a reflection of the government’s commitment to equitable infrastructure development and national transformation through inter-agency collaboration.
“This facility demonstrates the power of collaboration in delivering impactful, sustainable projects to our citizens. It brings services closer to the people, enhances public service delivery and contributes to local economic growth,” he said.
Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku was also in the region inspecting the ongoing construction works on the Muvakari–Kanyuambora and Kanyuambora–Kamumu–Kageeri roads in Mbeere North.
