Governor Bii orders evaluation of education projects to ensure they comply with quality requirements

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has ordered an evaluation of all ongoing education projects in the county to ensure they meet the required standards and effectively serve local communities.

He directed the department of education to carry out a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation exercise focusing on quality assurance in the implementation of its projects and programmes.

Education chief officer Eunice Suter said the department would act swiftly on the governor’s directive, noting that monitoring and evaluation are key to measuring success.

“If we really want to know whether we are doing the right thing, monitoring and evaluation is the key,” she said.

Suter said the exercise will strengthen accountability, transparency and effectiveness in departmental projects.

“It ensures initiatives remain on course, resources are properly utilised and outcomes achieved—ultimately building trust with citizens,” she said.

Suter also revealed that, in partnership with Nairobi-based business incubator iHub and the Education Empowerment for Rural and Urban Slums Initiative (EERUi), the county has organised capacity-building sessions for coordinators to enhance digital learning solutions and child care for early childhood development education learners.

Education director Peter Ruto reiterated the county’s commitment to transparency and impact.

“Monitoring and evaluation are not just technical processes—they reflect our responsibility to the people of Uasin Gishu. We want every resident to feel the impact of good governance,” he said.

The initiative is part of preparations for the signing of performance contracts aimed at improving efficiency in project implementation and service delivery. All staff will be required to sign contracts to enhance accountability in delivering county plans.

Present at the meeting were director for vocational training Phyllis Lagat, deputy director for education Pius Mosbei, chief coordinator Dorcas Komen, quality assurance officer Sharon Amai and principal human resource officer Josphat Kemei, among others.
