Tharaka Nithi, on September 2, 2025/SCREENGRABDeputy President Kithure Kindiki has challenged young people to take an active role in shaping Kenya’s future by asking tough questions and holding leaders accountable.
Speaking during a meeting with over 6,000 artists, musicians, and creative economy players from Embu County at his Irunduni home in Tharaka Nithi, Kindiki said the youth should be good stewards of the nation by demanding better services from those in authority.
He, however, cautioned them against allowing national challenges to be exploited by individuals seeking to incite unrest.
“Be good stewards, ask hard questions, especially to us who are in authority. Demand better services from us. But as we make our country better, don’t allow people to manipulate challenges to incite young people to destroy the country,” Kindiki said.
He noted that no country is without problems, pointing to issues such as unemployment, ethnicity, and racism that affect societies globally.
The Deputy President urged young Kenyans to express themselves and challenge injustices but to do so in ways that preserve peace and maintain a conducive environment for growth and investment.
“If you destroy the country it will beat the purpose, because there will be no country. Let us challenge things that are bad in our society but let’s keep the country safe so you can inherit a better future,” he said.
Kindiki further stated that if young people are not happy about the leadership they elected, they should not waste time abusing but wait for election to come and vote them out.
He said in the meantime, they should work on sharpening their skills to better their lives.
“If you don’t like your leaders, don’t waste time abusing them. Wait for elections and vote them out.”
Kindiki also outlined the plans government has to create employment for young people and in monetising the creative economy in the country.
He also noted the temporary jobs in affordable housing, Kazi mtandaoni and kazi majuu programmes that have been initiated the Kenya Kwanza administration.
