Brenda, partner to popular Kenyan recording artist Stevo Simple Boy, has shed light on the stark contrast between his public persona and his private struggles.
Her personal experience, particularly her first visit to his home, prompted her to take a stand and offer support.

A Glimpse Behind the Glamour
Many Kenyans admire Stevo Simple Boy, seeing him as a successful artist with a thriving career. The public often perceives him as living a comfortable life, a perception fuelled by his brand deals and public appearances.

However, Brenda during an interview with Betty Kyallo on TV47, noted that most supporters "don't know how Stevo lives".

"But to be honest, they don’t know how Stevo lives there… So when I went to Stevo, I saw the guy suffering."
Her personal visit to his residence revealed a much different reality.
The Shocking Reality
Brenda recounted her surprise when she first entered Stevo’s house. She initially wondered if he had another, better home and perhaps brought her to a different place to conceal his true living conditions. However, she soon realised it was the real one.
"So venye niliingia for the first day kwa nyumba ya Stevo nilishangaa hadi nikajiuliza kama ako na nyumba ingine separate. Maybe nikasema maybe amenileta tu kwa hii nyumba ndio nisijue nyumba yake ingine but kumbe ilikuwa ni hiyo real,” she recounted.

She discovered that despite his fame and numerous brand deals, Stevo "had nothing".
Brenda explained that while brands did pay him, the people around him, particularly his management, were exploiting him. They allegedly took all his earnings, failing to leave him even a small percentage.
"But he had nothing. First of all, do brands not pay him? They pay him. But the people who surrounded him… didn’t even leave him a small percentage."
A Fight for Justice
Moved by his situation, Brenda decided she had to help. She expressed her willingness to support him because Stevo is a "hard-working person," but he had been severely "misused" by those close to him.

The management even tried to create conflict between Brenda and Stevo's family to ensure they could continue exploiting him.

Brenda bravely stood by Stevo, supporting him in removing this management. The former management had access to all of Stevo’s bank accounts.
In a shocking revelation, after their departure, Stevo checked his account and found a mere 18 Kenyan shillings. This meagre sum meant they had to start "afresh".

"By the time he left Stevo, Stevo went to check his money in the account and found 18 bob."
Today, Brenda states that things are better, and they are progressing well, hoping to continue on this positive path.
Her intervention highlights the vulnerabilities artists can face behind the scenes, despite public perception.
