Nairobi County’s Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has confirmed that the ongoing losing streak of English football giants Manchester United has resulted in a significant reduction of noise pollution in the city.

In a candid post on his social media, the official celebrated the "peace and quiet" that has settled over Nairobi.

"With Man United on this losing streak, I can confirm that Noise Pollution Levels will remain at record lows this season. Finally, some peace and quiet in the streets. Furaha tele! ?"

Mosiria’s remarks come as the latest twist in Nairobi’s ongoing battle with noise, an issue he has previously addressed by introducing regulations to control sound from matatus, clubs, and churches.

His unique observation links the fortunes of a global football club to the daily life of a bustling African city.

A Season of Shame for the Red Devils

The official’s comments arrive at a time of deep disappointment for Manchester United fans globally. The team’s poor form has been a consistent theme this season, culminating in a humiliating early exit from the English League Cup.

In a dramatic second-round match, Manchester United were knocked out by fourth-tier side Grimsby Town after a gruelling penalty shootout.

The game had ended in a 2-2 draw, with Grimsby winning the shootout 12-11. The defeat is being described as one of the most embarrassing results in the club's history.

The team, now managed by Ruben Amorim, needed late goals just to salvage a draw in regulation time, having trailed 2-0 at halftime.

The Red Devils' dismal campaign has left them winless in three games so far, following a woeful 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season.

Nairobi’s Ongoing Battle Against Noise

Mosiria's comment, while humorous, points to the serious nature of noise pollution in Nairobi. The Nairobi City County has recently ramped up its efforts to enforce sound regulations.

Mosiria himself has spearheaded campaigns to tackle excessive noise from various sources, including matatus, which were ordered to mute their music upon entering the city's central business district.

The regulations also target nightclubs and religious buildings that have previously faced complaints from residents.

According to him, the county’s commitment to curbing noise is part of a broader effort to restore order and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
