The Football Kenya Federation is now urging Kenyans to support the remaining Harambee Stars African Nations Championship (CHAN) matches responsibly.

In a statement after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) fined Kenya Sh6.45 million (USD 50,000) over safety and security lapses during the match between Kenya and Morocco last Sunday, FKF said crowd trouble has cost it greatly.

The federation said that because of fans' behaviour, it is also facing heavy sanctions from CAF.

It urged fans to only attend the match against Zambia on Sunday if they have genuine tickets.

“Let’s support @Harambee__Stars responsibly on Sunday against Zambia & in all upcoming games. Crowd trouble is costing us dearly, and we are facing heavy sanctions. Only show up at Kasarani if you have a genuine ticket. Tusiharibu game tumestruggle sana kuijenga,” FKF said.

The fine came after the CAF Disciplinary Board found the Football Kenya Federation guilty of breaching multiple safety and security regulations.

“The Disciplinary Board found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of USD 50,000. Kenya was warned that continued failure to meet CAF safety and security requirements may lead to the relocation of Kenya’s National Team matches to an alternative venue,” CAF said.

The board warned that if such breaches persist, Kenya could be barred from hosting future national team matches at home.

CAF has advised FKF to take urgent corrective measures, including deploying sufficient security personnel inside and around the stadium and enforcing strict road closures on match days to control access and movement.

Additionally, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (“FRMF”) was charged with inappropriate conduct of its players during Morocco’s match against Harambee Stars, Kenya.

“The Disciplinary Board found Morocco guilty and imposed a fine of USD 5,000 (Sh650,000), of which USD 2,500 (Sh325,000) is suspended on condition that no similar offence is committed during the remainder of CHAN 2024,” CAF said.

CAF stated that the fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification of this decision.
