R.I.P: KTN’s Rhumba DJ Darius’s Both Parents Killed on Way to Graduation

The Kenyan entertainment industry is in mourning following the tragic death of the parents of KTN's Rhumba DJ Darius.

The parents were involved in a fatal road accident while travelling to Nairobi from Kisii for a family graduation ceremony.

The devastating news was shared by Darius's friend and colleague, Radio Maisha Rhumba host, Titi Nagwala, in a heartfelt post that has since garnered an outpouring of condolences.

The accident has left the media fraternity and fans reeling from shock, with many expressing their grief and offering support to the popular DJ during this difficult time.

A Restless Night of Foreboding

According to Titi Nagwala, DJ Darius had a premonition of the tragedy. Nagwala, who was with Darius, noted his colleague's unusual behaviour while on air.

"He kept stepping out to take calls. Later, he told me he had a bad feeling, like something was wrong back home, but no one was giving him straight answers,” Nagwala wrote.

He described Darius as being restless and flat, with his DJ mix sounding uncharacteristically off. The restless night ended with a midnight phone call, confirming the DJ's fears and bringing the heartbreaking news of his parents' death.

The Scene of the Tragedy

The accident occurred near Narok as the couple drove from their home in Kisii. The parents were on their way to Nairobi for what was meant to be a joyous family event.

The tragic collision resulted in their immediate deaths, turning a journey of celebration into a journey of profound loss.

“After 11 PM, he left to check on his parents, who were on the road to Nairobi for the family. At midnight, he called me. Both his parents had passed away in a tragic road accident near Narok,” Nagwala added.

DJ Darius later took to his social media to share the devastating aftermath. He posted videos and images of the wreckage of his parents' vehicle, which was at a police station.

The images showed a severely damaged car, a grim testament to the force of the collision. The sight of the mangled wreckage brought the full weight of the tragedy to his followers, many of whom responded with messages of sympathy and sorrow.

“This is what remains of the wreckage… the very accident that took both my parents' lives. It’s hard to believe that in just one moment, everything changed. They were full of life just days ago, preparing to come celebrate my brother’s graduation. And now, here I am, standing in front of twisted metal and broken glass, the painful evidence of that tragic day,” he wrote.

A Son's Devastating Visit to the Mortuary

In another post, DJ Darius posted a picture of himself, visibly heartbroken and devastated, in front of a mortuary after booking the bodies of his parents, awaiting further preparation to lay them to rest.

“I’ve just seen both my parents lying helplessly at the mortuary, it's a sight I will never forget. The postmortem is ongoing as we prepare for the next steps. My heart is heavy beyond words, but I deeply appreciate all your prayers and support. Please keep us in your thoughts during this unbearable time,” Darius posted.
