Winfred Wanjiru, better known by her childhood nickname Wixx Mangutha, a visual storyteller at the US Embassy in Nairobi, recently offered a candid peek into her personal and professional life.
The revelations came during a dynamic Q&A session with journalist Kalondu Musyimi of Mpasho, held during the launch of Dairyland’s new drinking chocolate.
Beyond the Lens: The Woman Behind the Name
During the quick-fire session, Wixx shared details about her identity and personal history. Her full real name is Winfred Esther Nancy Wiro Kiburu.
She also revealed that her childhood nickname, Wigs, eventually evolved from Wamadesh into Wixx.
“My real name is Winfred Esther Nancy Wanjiru Kiburu. My nickname began with Wamadesh, and then it changed to Wixx. I’m 5’3 feet in height and I’m 30 years old,” she shared.

In a moment of unexpected honesty, she admitted that her most embarrassing search history query involved wondering "if her toe will return to normal."
When asked about her last lie, Wixx playfully confessed, "I lied to the guys at the office every day," explaining that she is always pranking them. She also shared that the last time she cried was due to "girls’ emotions".
Her closest contacts appear to be her husband, whom she calls the most, and Soni Tamara, a colleague at the office, whom she texts most frequently.
Early Ventures and Educational Pursuits
Delving into her past, Wixx recounted her professional beginnings. Her first job was at a call centre. At the time, she earned approximately 25,000 Kenyan Shillings. This entry into the workforce dates back to 2014.

Academically, Wixx is quite accomplished, having pursued three degrees. Her fields of study include Business Administration, Computer Science, and Human Resources (HR).
She also shared her academic performance from earlier stages, noting she achieved 383 marks in her KCPE and a B grade in her KCSE. English was her favorite subject in school, while Agriculture was her least favorite.
Personal Reflections and Life's Lessons
Wixx shared some insightful personal reflections during the session. She confessed that her mother's death hit her the hardest. When asked about the best advice she had ever received, she quoted:
"Don't compare yourself to anyone. That's how you'll become the best version of yourself."
She further elaborated that what she wished she had learned sooner was that "comparing myself [is] a waste [of] time".

Interestingly, when asked about her biggest red flag, Wixx candidly admitted, "You wrong me once, it's easy for me to cut you off, but I'm working on it".
On the topic of heartbreaks, she revealed a unique perspective. Having experienced both, Wixx believes that a "friendship breakup hurts more than a romantic one.”
