By the time his parents realized he was missing, Mateo was no longer alive. The confirmed cause of death was a "tragic drowning accident" that occurred on Sunday at 11 AM.

The news has sent shockwaves through the online community, particularly among those who follow David Mwangi's journey as a forex trader. The family emphasized the profound pain of losing a child, describing it as "the most painful thing that every parent dreads".

Mateo's passing comes just a month after his first birthday. Mwangi shared his deep sorrow, stating, "Never in a million years did I think I'd be making a post like this. Just one month after your first birthday.... I was so excited for the plans we made… life won't be the same without you".

Amid their grief, the family has also addressed what they describe as "cruel and careless comments" on social media, urging the public to refrain from adding further pain to their already broken hearts and asking for prayers instead of judgment.

“But amid our pain, we’ve seen cruel and careless comments accusing us of things so far from the truth. ? Please understand this: we would never harm our child. We loved him deeply, and we still do. This was a tragic accident, and we’re still trying to process the pain.”

"We ask for your prayers, not your judgment," the statement read.
