Former Sauti Sol lead vocalist Bien Aime Baraza used his global platform to send a powerful message of solidarity to his fellow Kenyans during a street performance in London, just hours after the deadly Saba Saba Day protests rocked Kenya on July 7, 2025.
Standing in front of a lively crowd in the UK capital, Bien paused mid-performance to acknowledge the ongoing crisis back home, paying homage to the lives lost during the nationwide anti-government demonstrations.
The Saba Saba protests, which started as peaceful gatherings, turned tragic as police officers reportedly used excessive force against unarmed citizens, leading to injuries and fatalities across the country.
Accompanied by his wife and manager Chiki Kuruka and DJ Agonline, Bien’s performance turned into a heartfelt moment of political expression.
The highlight, however, was not just in his words, but also in his unmistakable style. True to his signature flair, Bien brought along a live chicken, a quirky and symbolic companion that has become a trademark of his shows.
The chicken, which he proudly displays, reflects his Luhya heritage, paying homage to his roots and home culture with a bold, humorous twist.

The London moment wasn’t just spontaneous—it was a continuation of Bien’s bold stance on Kenya’s governance and his commitment to amplifying the voices of the oppressed. In recent years, the celebrated Afro-fusion star has used his art and influence to protest injustices in Kenya, notably through songs like Tujiangalie, Tano Tena, and Maandamano (a collaboration with rapper Breeder), which all tackle systemic failures, police brutality, and the disconnect between government and people.
Social media users back in Kenya and in the diaspora praised Bien for standing in solidarity with the movement, reminding fans that the struggle for justice crosses borders.
As the country reels from the Saba Saba aftermath, voices like Bien’s are proving music remains a powerful tool for resistance, remembrance, and hope.
