In a profound display of support and solidarity, Liverpool Football Club has reportedly made the extraordinary decision to continue paying the remaining wages of star forward Diogo Jota to his grieving family until 2027.
This move comes as the football world mourns the tragic passing of the 28-year-old Portuguese international, who, along with his brother Andre, died in a devastating car crash in northern Spain in the early hours of Thursday, July 3.
The devastating incident, which occurred just 11 days after Jota's marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Cardoso, has sent shockwaves through the global football community. The Lamborghini Jota was driving reportedly suffered a burst tyre during an overtaking maneuver, leading to the fatal crash.

His untimely death has triggered an outpouring of grief from all associated with Liverpool FC, including its vast fanbase, and indeed the wider football world, as the sport grapples with the loss of one of its bright stars and a true family man who leaves behind his wife and three young children.
Diogo Jota had joined the Premier League champions in 2020 in a significant £41 million deal, quickly establishing himself as a crucial attacking force. His impressive performance on the field, which saw him net 65 club goals in 182 appearances, earned him a contract extension just two years later.
At the time of his tragic passing, Jota was reportedly earning a substantial £140,000-a-week (approximately KSh 24,686,200) plus additional bonuses.
Meanwhile, some of his grieving Liverpool teammates, including close friend Andy Robertson, who last saw Diogo Jota at his wedding, and club captain Virgil van Dijk were pictured arriving at church carrying red wreaths with the No 20 woven into them.

Manager Arne Slot also arrived, somberly entering the place of worship, alongside his players Joe Gomez, Wataro Endo and Ibrahima Konate.
It is on the solemn day of Diogo Jota's funeral in Gondomar, Portugal, that reports have emerged regarding Liverpool's compassionate financial commitment.
According to Portuguese publication Record, the Reds plan to offer not only emotional support but also substantial financial assistance to Jota's family. The club will reportedly honor Jota’s contract in full, which still had two years left to run.
This means his family is set to receive the full remaining sum of his wages, totalling approximately £14,560,000 (equivalent to approximately KSh 2,568,668,000), as a profound token of the club's unwavering support during an unimaginable time of loss.
The ongoing financial support is intended to provide a measure of stability for Jota's wife and young children as they navigate the immense grief and challenges that lie ahead.
