The Nairobi City Marathon has unveiled a remarkable prize fund totalling Sh24,035,000, positioning the event as one of the most rewarding road races in the region.

The prize money, which will be distributed across the marathon, half marathon, and 10km races, is set to attract elite athletes and rising stars alike, promising fierce competition on race day

The race, which is organised annually largely to promote national pride and celebrate athletic talent, will take place on the morning of Sunday, July 6.

It will start and finish at Uhuru Park.

The substantial prize money underscores the Nairobi City Marathon’s commitment to supporting athletes and elevating the status of road racing in Kenya.

The prize structure is designed to benefit a wide field, with the top 22 finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories receiving cash awards.

In the full marathon, the stakes are particularly high, as the top male and female finishers will each walk away with Sh3,500,000.

The second-place finishers will earn Sh2,250,000, while those finishing third will take home Sh1,500,000.

Runners who will finish in tenth place will pocket Sh200,000.

The rewards continue to cascade down, with even the 22nd place finishers receiving Sh30,000.

In total, each gender in the marathon will see Sh11,410,000 distributed among the top 22 athletes.

The half marathon also offers attractive incentives, with the winners in both the men’s and women’s races set to receive Sh150,000 each.

The top six finishers in each category will be rewarded, with the second and third places earning Sh80,000 and Sh50,000 respectively.

Fourth, fifth and sixth will each receive Sh30,000, Sh25,000 and Sh20,000 respectively.

The total prize pool for each gender in the half marathon stands at Sh355,000.

For the 10km race, the top male and female finishers will each claim Sh100,000.

The prize money extends to the top five in each category, with the second and third places receiving Sh60,000 and Sh40,000 respectively.

Fourth, fifth and sixth will each receive Sh30,000, Sh15,000 and Sh7,500 respectively.

The total amount allocated for each gender in the 10km race is Sh252,500.
