In an unprecedented cinematic experience, Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) launched its groundbreaking Green Energy Infomercial at Century Cinemax, Sarit Centre.

The high-level event brought together key stakeholders from government, the energy sector, investment circles, and media to witness the unveiling of a bold, climate-conscious industrial future powered by Kenya’s geothermal wealth.

The occasion was graced by representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, including Chrispin Lupe, the Alternate Director to the Principal Secretary and representative of the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. James Opiyo Wandayi.

Other distinguished guests included Chairman of the Nairobi Securities Exchange Kiprono Kittony, Radio Africa Group Editorial Director Paul Ilado, and a host of investors and board members.

A New Era for Energy Storytelling

The evening began with nostalgic and candid reflections from KenGen Board Chairman Alfred Agoi Masadia, who humorously shared that it had been years since he last sat in a cinema.

His remarks quickly transitioned into a visionary tone, applauding the company for taking a bold and creative approach to unveiling one of Kenya’s most transformative energy projects yet.

“This evening, we gather as dream-weavers and architects of a new energy narrative,” said Masadia.

“We are here to commission a beautifully told story of how Kenya, led by KenGen, is embracing the future — one green electron at a time. Today, weareAfrica’slargestrenewable energygeneratorandaglobalmodelforgreenenergy leadership. Unveiling the Green Energy Park

KenGen Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga took pride in the uniqueness of the occasion, noting it was the first time the energy giant had taken over a cinema to showcase not a film or musical, but a national development project.

“This event is a bold step toward our vision of a decarbonized industrial future,” Njenga said, unveiling the Green Energy Park, a flagship project poised to become Africa’s first fully geothermal-powered industrial park.

“We want to make Kenya the heart of climate-smart manufacturing in Africa. From today’s launch, we will be airing the green energy infomercial to a wider audience across all media platforms in Kenya and beyond,”.

Located in Olkaria, Naivasha, the 8,292-acre Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is strategically designed to attract industries in manufacturing, agro-processing, green mobility, data centers, and research labs.

Phase One of the park will harness 330 megawatts of geothermal power — part of the 754MW capacity already installed at Olkaria — to power industrial operations sustainably and affordably.

According to Eng. Njenga, the Green Energy Park, once fully operational, is expected to:

Generate over Ksh 30 billion in annual revenue.

Create approximately 59,000 jobs in construction, operations, and support industries.

Catalyze climate-smart industrialization and value addition.

Reduce industrial carbon emissions significantly.

KenGen is currently engaging potential anchor tenants, investors, and green finance institutions to accelerate the project’s development, with infrastructure master planning already completed and land partially serviced.

“The opportunity is here,” said Eng. Njenga. “We are building a platform where industries can thrive with lower operating costs, greater energy security, and a greener footprint.”

Both Njenga and Masadia emphasized the need for strong partnerships and stakeholder collaboration in actualizing the vision of the Green Energy Park.

The project aligns with Kenya Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), positioning it as a national priority in the push for sustainable industrial growth.

“For investors, this is more than a business opportunity — it’s a chance to be part of a generational shift,” said Masadia. “The park is a blueprint for tomorrow’s economy — where profitability meets sustainability.”

The infomercial, now set to air across all major media platforms, is not just a film — it’s a manifesto. Through compelling visuals, it captures the essence of Kenya’s energy transition, the scale of KenGen’s geothermal potential, and the economic possibilities of clean energy-powered industrialization.

“This cinematic window into our future is a declaration of intent to lead, to innovate, and to be part of the solution to climate change,” Eng. Njenga declared.

The launch event marked more than a premiere; it was a turning point. As the lights dimmed and the infomercial played, a sense of shared responsibility and excitement filled the theatre. KenGen’s message was clear: the future of Africa’s energy lies not in fossil fuels, but in the vast geothermal fields of the Rift Valley.

And with the Green Energy Park, Kenya is ready to lead that future, not just on paper, but in action.
