The ongoing #RejectFinanceBill2024 protests, now marking their anniversary, took a deeply personal turn for popular Kenyan musician Nadia Mukami as a distressing video surfaced showing her husband, fellow artist Arrow Bwoy, being subjected to police brutality on the streets of Nairobi.

The footage sent shockwaves across social media, drawing a furious reaction from Mukami and reigniting public anger over police conduct.

The viral Instagram video widely circulated on platforms like X, captures a chaotic scene amidst the June 25th demonstrations.

In the clip, a police officer, identifiable by uniform, is seen wielding a long, flexible whip, repeatedly striking a group of individuals. Arrow Bwoy, distinguishable by his attire, appears within the frame, seemingly caught in the melee.

The officer swings the whip with considerable force, with its tip visibly making contact with protesters. The raw, unedited nature of the video vividly portrays the aggression and lack of restraint displayed by the officer, highlighting the violent reality faced by many demonstrators. The sounds of shouts and commotion further amplify the intensity of the confrontation.

Nadia Mukami, known for her powerful vocals and outspoken nature, swiftly took to Instagram to express her outrage.

"Nyinyi mafalamsishike baba watoto wangu!!!! #endpolicebrutality Nimejam ata!!!!" she passionately wrote, roughly translating to, "You fools, don't touch my baby daddy!!!! #endpolicebrutality I am so angry!!!!!".

Mukami's reaction is particularly poignant given her active participation in last year's #RejectFinanceBill2024 protests. In June 2024, Nadia Mukami was among the prominent voices and faces seen on the streets, lending her star power and influence to the youth-led movement.

She documented her involvement on TikTok, sharing videos of herself amidst the tear gas and crowds, with captions like "Neno ni Moja #rejectfinancebill2024 THE WHOLE OF IT!!!!!!!!!!! Today we paused Water & Wine EP marketing and we hit the streets to support our fellow Kenyans! Teargas, kupotezasimu na nikaipata, kuanguka BUT it was worth it!!! I love how Kenyans have united for this cause."

Her presence then served as a rallying point for many young Kenyans. However, this year, Nadia Mukami confirmed she would not be joining the protests on the ground.

In a prior Instagram post, she explained her absence which is justifiable considering she is heavily pregnant with their second born.

"Last year I joined my fellow Kenyans on the street for #rejectfinancebill2024. This year, due to my current situation I am not in a position to join Kenyans on the street. But I am still here with you guys. Let us remember, we are the ones we have been waiting for! The future is Now!”
